Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Director of Accounting / Controller to lead accounting operations for D2D Consulting’s clients in the real estate and property management sectors. This role will focus on providing outsourced accounting services — including property, corporate, and development accounting — across multiple client portfolios.

The ideal candidate will bring both technical accounting expertise and leadership skills, thrive in a client-facing environment, and be able to manage multiple engagements simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day property, corporate, and development accounting activities for multiple client portfolios.
  • Manage full-cycle accounting including accounts payable, receivable, general ledger, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP for client entities.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, processes, and standardized procedures to ensure accuracy and scalability across client accounts.
  • Oversee client cash management, banking relationships, and investor reporting.
  • Maximize the use of Yardi Voyager and other accounting systems to enhance reporting, automation, and data integrity.
  • Partner closely with client leadership teams to provide financial insights that drive informed business decisions.
  • Lead, mentor, and support accounting staff to ensure quality and consistency in service delivery.
  • Coordinate and support external audits, tax preparation, and regulatory compliance for client entities.
  • Identify and implement technology-driven process improvements that increase efficiency and transparency.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role within real estate or property management accounting.
  • Strong proficiency with Yardi Voyager (Residential and Commercial modules).
  • Experience with property-level accounting, ownership structures, and investor reporting.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines in a consulting or outsourced environment.
  • High integrity and discretion in handling sensitive financial information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience supporting multiple entities or clients in an outsourced or fractional accounting capacity.
  • Familiarity with RealPage, MDS, or similar property management systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of data integration tools and API-driven reporting.
  • Advanced Excel or data visualization (Power BI, Tableau) capabilities.
  • Project Management certification (e.g., PMP) or equivalent experience a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Leadership: Inspires and motivates teams to deliver high-quality work and meet deadlines.
  • Communication: Clearly conveys financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Client Service Orientation: Builds trust through responsiveness and reliability.
  • Critical Thinking: Identifies issues, analyzes data, and recommends strategic solutions.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a dynamic consulting environment with shifting priorities.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures precision and accuracy in all deliverables.
